The Grand Palace and The Emerald Buddha or Wat Phra Kaew are both the highlight of any visit to Bangkok. They are also well known as the “jewel in the crown” of Bangkok. The Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the adjoining Grand Palace together form perhaps the greatest spectacle for any visitor to Thailand. The Grand Palace was built in 1782, when King Rama I succeeded to the throne, and its construction work took 3 years to complete. The architectural plan of this Grand Palace is almost identical to that of the Royal Palace in the former capital of Ayutthaya, more than 600 years ago. The area of the Palace is about 60 acres. Despite the fact that the whole compound is full with tourists and you spend half the time trying to avoid getting in people’s photos; it is a very amazing place to visit.

Located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, Wat Arun is mostly known for its landmark in Bangkok. The outstanding feature of Wat Arun is central prang, also called “Phra Prang”, a 70-metre high structure decorated with mosaic pattern of multi-colored Chinese porcelain. This exquisite and outstanding Phra Prang is the tallest in the world. Wat Arun was restored during the brief Thonburi period to be the Royal Chapel of King Taksin.

Despite its name “Temple of Dawn”, its most beautiful view is from the Bangkok side of the river at sunset.
